dc.description.abstractThailand is one of the pioneers in contract farming in Asia. The Thai state has actively promoted this mechanism of agricultural production and marketing coordination since the mid-1980s. This paper examines the nature of contracts and their performance, explores the role of the Thai state in contract farming, and traces the dynamics and implications of contract farming for the farmers and the local economy.
