dc.description.abstract | This study explores the nature of fast food work in the Indian context using an qualitative case-study approach. To understand the context, the production and service systems at an India based fast-food chain outlet are analyzed using McDonaldization as the framework. Standardization and routinization at this outlet is not comparable to that of multinational chains like Domino’s or McDonald’s. Workers resist standardization of personal appearance and use of standard scripts as they consider these practices to be alien to their way of living. However, hectic work load, poor pay and limited potential for growth become acceptable to young and vulnerable workers due to lack of alternate job opportunities. Such exploitative nature of the work is seen as normal and common. | en_US |
