Abstract: This paper reviews scholarly work on International Joint Ventures (IJVs) as appeared in peer-reviewed journals. It attempts to identify how the research in this field has evolved and developed into sub-fields, which topics have found greater acceptability and attention, how theoretical progress has taken place, and what further work that could be done in this field.Of the identified sub-fields, control, learning, and longevity of IJVs were discussed in detail. While IJV research has proliferated over the past two decades, there is a dominance of empirical studies and little theory generation has taken place. The paper assesses the multitude of theoretical lenses used in IJV research and identifies gaps therein
