Abstract: I express my sincere gratitudes to Shri D.N.Davar, Chairman, IFCI and Dr S.A.Dave, Executive Director, IDBI, for facilitating collection of data in their respective organisations. I am greatly thankful to Dr R.H.Patil, General Manager, IDBI who very freely gave his time whenever I approached him and made a lot of data and information about IDBI available to me. I am also thankful to Shri r. Subramanian, Assistant General Manager, IFCI for supplying me information about IFCI. I also show my appreciation to Shri S.S.Betrabet, Chief General Manager, ICICI who had shown interest in the study. The management of ICICI, however, did not provide any detailed information in response to the questionnaires sent to them in spite of several reminders for a period of about six months. Thus the information about ICICI in the study is based on published material. The financial support for the study, provided by the Research Committee, Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, is duly acknowledged.
