Abstract: As the Indian government contemplates enacting generic name-based prescriptions, it is important to understand the pros and cons of such regulation. This article points out various advantages associated with such changes in doctor behaviour, while pointing out potential issues with it. It argues that while the prices of older drugs might come down because of the new regulation, other issues pertaining to quality might arise.
