Abstract Research by leading research houses predicted that B2B transactions over the Internet woorld would rise exponentially in the coming vears and would dwarf mat of the B2C segment Soon many B2B exchanges appeared in the horizon . In due course of time , most B2B enterprises valuations rose highly even still before those B2B exchanges had much of transactions and even when they were still making losses. In the year 2000, however, investors and analyst started questioning the business models of these B2B exchanges and soon their valuations came crashing down. Many questions thus crop up. What made these exchanges attractive in the first place ? Why did they fail to garner transactions? Why did their valuations come down? What does the future hold for the B2B sector and what strategy should firms now follow? Tis report tries to analyse what has happened in the past in an effort to answer these questions and suggest a roadmap for the future. This report will be relevent to students and teachers of e-Business and strategy . It woould also help copanies both independent third party exchanges and brick-and-mortar companies, to formulate the IT strategies. It will also help investors gain an insight as to what look for in B2B companies.en_US
