In this paper addresses the current debate on the viability of rural banking by the Nationalized Commercial Banks (NCBs) in India. The debate centers around two divergent views about the future role of the NCBs. One view point is that rural banking by the NCBs is unviable due to low interest rates for the priority sector advances (PSA).
