Vasant Veggies aims at procuring fresh produce from farmers and mandis and bring it to end customers while maintaining quality of produce. But they are facing challenge of high wastage at their retail store due to various factors such as improper handling, low produce purchased, low expected sales etc. Our project targets at developing a procurement strategy to minimize the wastage of vegetables; thereby minimize the overall cost of operation. The data collected from secondary literature, store visit and client database has been used to assume different parameters for our model. Our model focuses on top four vegetables for which the wastage is highest. After our initial analysis, we found out the expected sales of vegetables at the retail store is dependent on quantity available and quality of vegetables. Using this, we have calculated what should be the optimal percentage split between purchase from mandis and farmers to minimize wastage. A detailed list of assumptions made for our model and observations have been listed in the report.Based on the outcome of the model, we recommend our client to use a mixed strategy for their procurement i.e. purchase from both mandis and farmers. Detailed model has been attached with the report as exhibits. The scope for further improvement to the model has also been highlighted in the report.en_US
