Abstract: | This paper aims to examine the different religious connotations that could be important in increasing altruistic levels among strangers. We consider the importance of religious symbols, such as Hindu numbers like 101, as well as priming in terms of interpreting religious texts. The altruism of strangers is tested through a simple ultimatum game. We find that both the religious priming and numbers like 101 significantly increase the levels of altruism among participants. The results show an innate relation between religious representations and increase of altruism among people. |
