Development of a web-based platform providing customized accommodation to fresh graduates

Abstract

Rental housing is a critical component of the housing response in urbanizing countries. Across the income spectrum, rental housing allows greater labour mobility. For low-income households specially, fresh graduates that often work in the informal sector, rental housing better suits their income volatility and risk profile. Home ownership requires fixed monthly payments, for an illiquid asset that is subject to market risk and constraints mobility for those who can least afford to be unemployed. It is access to housing, not ownership, that is of primary importance. Every year thousands of college graduates travel to cities like Bangalore, Gurugram etc. for their jobs and face difficulties in finding suitable accommodation. We aim to provide customized housing for such students; saving their time and money as we will find the appropriate houses for them at the best rates possible. Having future entrepreneurial aspirations, our group wants to develop a platform that aims to provide a superior living experience to millennials in India. Through this project we wish to endeavor into and explore the aspects of creating a sustainable business model which would help us in gaining the technical know-hows that goes into forming a successful startup. We aim to connect the students, with the help of a website, to different available accommodations, allowing them to specify their requirements (house type, price etc.). We intend to provide the young professionals a fully-furnished comfortable home stay within a community of like-minded people so that our residents don't just live but enjoy living. For property owners, we act as property managers, helping them with furnishing the property, good upkeep, maintenance and ensuring tenants of high pedigree. Based on the above objective, we intend to design a web-based platform aiming to provide hassle-free and customized accommodation services to fresh graduates travelling to new cities for their jobs.
