India is still in its early stages in the electric vehicle adoption curve. Out of the 24 million vehicles that are sold annually, electric vehicles constitute only 1% of the overall number (Sharma, 2018). The government has to make substantial efforts to increase the share of electric vehicles. According to Steffen Knapp, Director of Volkswagen Passenger Cars (India), “India does not have an ecosystem in place to promote electric vehicles. The Government needs to provide substantial subsidies to make it viable for companies to invest in electric cars in India” (Economic Times, 2018). This report focuses on the current status of Electric Vehicles in India, leading stories of EV adoption around the world, secondary research on the significant roadblocks for EV adoption and finally all these insights have been used to develop a comprehensive strategy for EV adoption in India.en_US
