Abstract: | Indian Public Sector banks are one of the cornerstones of Indian Economy (Gandhi. V,2020), The share of the total business of banking sector in India held by the public sector banks continued to grow through the 1980s and 90s, and PSU banks accounted for 90% of the total banking sector's business (National Herald, 2019). During the last 5 years period between FY'15 and FY'19, weak public sector banks' profitability, solvency and adequacy ratios have deteriorated significantly (National Herald, 2019). While there are reasons for the lack luster performance that are often discussed such as increased lending requirement (Tiwari, 2019), poor liquidity position of the banks with government announcing fresh capital infusion (ET Online, 2019) there are also other reasons which are overlooked, i.e. the behavior of bank employees which might impact the business growth of the bank. The objectives of the current study were to examine the extent and nature of Counterproductive Work Behavior (CWB) and Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB) among Indian Public Sector bank employees, along with to examine the relationship between CWB/OCB and economic performance of the bank and, to examine the relationship between CWB/OCB and performance of the bank. A total of 69 bank employees participated in the survey and were provided with a questionnaire that measured Counterproductive Work Behavior (CWB) and Organizational Work Behavior (OCB). The findings showed that employees could show both Counterproductive Work Behavior and Organizational Citizenship Behavior at the same time, however no significant relationship was seen between OCB/CWB and business growth of the branch. |
