The fisheries sector has been very important in India’s economy. It is an important source of livelihood for a considerable proportion of Indian population. In 2017-18, India produced 12.59 million MT of fish, of which 8.9 (~71%) million MT is from inland fisheries. It ranks 2nd, after Japan, in the world in the inland fisheries sector. (Department, February 2018) Despite the scale, the traditional fishing methods dominate the practices followed, and the markets for fish in India remain greatly unorganised. Hence, there is a huge scope for streamlining the supply chain and removing inefficiencies with the help of novel technologies and better linkages. (Ministry Report on Fisheries , 2019) The farm to fork model has been successfully implemented in agri-commodities and has led to significant improvements in that sector. Therefore, it will be very interesting to see the feasibility of such a model in the fisheries sector and evaluate the latent potential.en_US
