Abstract: In this project, we examine the role of state as per some prominent intellectual voices in 20th century. These people include Milton Friedman, Noam Chomsky, Robert Nozick, and Rawls. We use their writings as a basis for their project. We chose these people due to multiple reasons. One, is the personal fascination towards many questions on justice and discrimination. And the unresolved debates in Indian media, classrooms, with friends and family created a significant mental space to such issues. Two, these people have divergent views while belonging to similar universities, country and time. And it’s understood that the context and time heavily influences political and philosophical work. And when comparing multiple analysis, it becomes imperative to take into account these differences. To compare Marx and Chomsky, would need special consideration of the economic and social environment they were brought up into. And because these 4 personalities shared the common context (in terms of time and space); that gets automatically controlled of. Hence, any divergence in views, could be attributed to their analysis, intellect and values.
