Abstract: | India’s diverse climate enables the production of a huge variety of fruits and vegetable sin the country. India is the world’s second largest producer of Fruits and Vegetables after China. Even though a lot of effort has been put over the past decades to increase the production of fruits and vegetables in India, the supply chain for fruits and vegetables in the country is still at a nascent stage. This causes significant loss of produces post harvests and leads to higher costs and lower quality of products to the customers and reduces the returns to the farmers. Due to the perishable nature of the fruits and vegetables, farmers are forced to sell their produce at throw away prices during the harvest season and suffer losses. Hence an efficient supply chain plays an integral role in increasing profitability and keeping business costs to minimum. |
