dc.description.abstract | Companies are not new to us and have been present since the 6th century. As the name suggests, companies are generally a group of people who come together to pursue a common goal. This goal can be economic profit, social cause, or anything else. As companies become successful within their limited geographical operation, they try to increase their size and scope to achieve their goal at a much larger level. To achieve operational efficiency and effectiveness, they must add more people as employees or partners. This process of adding new people to the organization is not an easy one. Hence, to cater to all these challenges, companies were forced to form personnel or people management as a separate department. With the changing time, the definition and scope of people management have constantly been shifting. The most recent description is "Human resource management is that part of management concerned with people at work and their relationship within an enterprise. It aims to bring together and develop into an effective organization for the men and women who make up an enterprise and having regard for the wellbeing of the individuals and working groups, to enable them to make their best contribution to its success". —Institute of Personnel Management. | en_US |
