Abstract: Water-front or river-front projects are an integral piece of the modern urban landscape. Rivers have always been the cradle for civilizations, with most of the early settlements by humans blossoming around rivers. They also enhanced trade and transport, providing economic benefits and livelihood to people. With the development of the urban landscape far from rivers, there was a time when rivers and waterbodies were exploited and misused rampantly. With the new generation of thinking, these ideas have changed. We have rediscovered the potential of water bodies and the immense benefits that they offer, economically and ecologically. Riverfront projects have been undertaken in various cities as flood-control mechanisms, soil irrigation, recreational purposes and many such uses. In the context of the Riverfront projects, Sabarmati riverfront project is the first project of its kind. It started as a small thought from a French architect, Bernard Kohn. The evolution of the project is multifold. There were certain objectives through which the project has matured to a huge urban landscape like now. This report aims to analyze on various viewpoints covering various stakeholders involved.
