Title: Change in individual contexts: a literary compilation of human stories
Authors: Gupta, Vasundhara
Yashaswi
Keywords: Migration, Immigration, Emigration;| IELTS (International English Language Testing System);India - Emigration and immigration - Punjab
Issue Date: 1-Jan-2023
Publisher: Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad
Abstract: Previously, migrating to Canada from Punjab was just one of the many available options the youth had, but now it has seemingly become the sole available choice. When the news of clearing the IELTS spreads through a household, joy cascades with an infectious energy that lifts the spirits of everyone around. The kitchen becomes a hub of excitement, as laddoos (an Indian sweet) are carefully shaped, with laughter echoing through the air. New clothes are donned with pride and enthusiasm, symbolizing a fresh chapter in the journey of success. Clearing the IELTS isn't just an individual triumph; it becomes a celebration of the entire family’s efforts, sacrifices, and unwavering support. To many outsiders (like us), IELTS may not seem like a difficult route or one that they would even want to traverse. In Punjab, however, this route to Canada has become a safe pathway to independence and a seemingly prosperous life. Within the pages of this book, the reader will find the finer, often unnoticed changes in the lives of people in Punjab brought about by rampant migration. As the narrative unfolds, the reader will be faced with the abyss of youthful dreams and the complete absence of opportunities in the vast landscape of aspirations.
