dc.description.abstract | Realising the need for a proper and speedy estimation of coffee production, an attempt is made to study and suggest modifications in the existing method. A brief review of the present system of estimation, and earlier attempts made to improve it, is made. A depth study of 100 planters and an inspector in a coffee production centre over three years was conducted. Results of this study, indicate planter-inspector-actual variations and the possible causes for the same. The relationship between accuracy of estimation and volume to be estimated is also studied. Finally, a calibration of planters' estimate to reflect the actual production is indicated. It is suggested that production estimation by calibrating planters' estimate is a potential alternative for the present method of estimation. The recommended alternative can avoid estimation by inspectors and save time and costs. Further experimentation of this alternative is recommended before implementation | |
