dc.description.abstractGiven the scarcity of resources for investment in agriculture, it is necessary to mark out areas of high and low agricultural productivity. Policy-makers can then decide where to concentrate the possible agricultural development works, considering the goals in view It is necessary, therefore, to formulate a measure for gauging agricultural productivity. Several suggestions have been made on the definition of agricultural productivity. The following article considers these, and recommends the crop yield index as the most useful measure.
