dc.description.abstractThe author reviews several researches on "absenteeism''' in order to formulate hypotheses for his own study. A number of demogra phic, social, and organisational factors are examined in relation to absenteeism using primary data from an automobile plant in Bombay. The findings show that, except for rural-urban back ground and union involvement, most of the selected variables failed to show significant association with absenteeism. In both the form er cases, the findings are in the direction opposite from what is commonly suggested in the literature.
