There has been a marked increase in commercial bank advances for agricultural activities after the nationalization of banks in 1969. The agricultural loans of commercial banks have increased from about Rs. 45 crores in 1968 to Rs. 617 crores in December 1973. This manifold increase in agricultural loans was possible due to the rapid expansion of bank branches and appropriate changes in lending policies.
