The supply and price of many agricultural commodities follow somewhat regular cycles: These cycles are generally of two types: Seasonal cycles covering a period of 12 months and cycles of longer duration involving several years. An understanding of the periodicity of the cycles influencing the availability and price of agricultural commodities will provide substantial help to all those concerned with the development and use of these commodities, especially in the area of short term and long-term forecasting.
