dc.description.abstract | The Government of India has recently announced a national policy on population, with several measures to increase the general acceptance of the family planning programme. These measures include higher acceptor incentives, group incentives, multi-media communication strategy, and the offering of an integrated package of health, family planning and nutrition. The present paper argues that greater success in family planning programmes can be achieved by increased efforts towards changing attitudes than by merely disseminating information about family planning more widely. This can be achieved by instituting changes in the implementation of the family planning programme, its organisational structure and process, and the training of family planning workers. | |
