Abstract: This case describes a situation faced by a multiproduct, multidivisional public sector company, ECIL. The company deals with a wide variety of electronic equipment, components and systems. The company is running into losses and needs to be turned around. The case presents an overall picture of the company at the corporate level. The subsequent cases in this series, ECIL (D) through (I) give the details regarding each of the various Business Groups. The case, in conjunction with the other cases in the series, is intended to be used for a capstone exercise to develop the overall corporate strategy and business strategies for the various groups. The case gives data regarding products, environment, technologies, the organization structure, and existing corporate policies regarding technology, R&D, HRD and finance which may be critically looked at before giving the overall recommendations.
