Abstract

The case presents a novel approach to manage the logistics function of multi product environment. The proposed system is a version of Toyota production system in the context of the logistics functions. The central issue is inventory management. The proposed system is conceptually simple, but raises a large number of issues related to implementation. Some of the issues relate to managing efficiency from single item level to system level. The case provides details of the context (plant, product, competition) and an elaborate description of the proposed system. It concludes with a set of issues related to implementation.
