Title: Problem Set for Modelling with Spreadsheets
Authors: Rao, Rama T. P.
Keywords: Computer and Information Systems
Issue Date: 3-Sep-2010
Abstract: This problem set is developed with an objective providing practical contexts of various decision support situations which can be addressed by modelling with spreadsheets. The set has a number of problems and an integrated case. To solve the problems in this set the participant is required to refer to material on excel which illustrate the features of excel and their applications. Specifically, the problem set requires good understanding of the concepts such as: 1) developing formulae for copying – use of relative absolute addresses (appropriate use of $), 2) using simple built-in functions (like if, Min, Max, Sumif, ….), 3) using table lookup functions (Vlookup Hlookup, index, match, …….), 4) developing data tabulations (row input cell, column input cell, both) for summarizations, 5) goal seeking and scenario building, 6) developing array functions, 7) developing criteria and using data base functions (like dsum, dcount, ..), 8) using string and date functions, 9) using pivot tables for data summarization, 10) using solver for optimization problems.
