Abstract: Public Distribution System in India suffers from problems of diversion and poor targeting. Department of Food and Civil Supplies, Government of Andhra Pradesh India examined the problem and started and exercise to improve the delivery of food-grains and kerosene to poor people. This case examines the problem of developing IT based solutions for the problems(s) in consideration. There are various processes waiting to be computerized and the first step is to prioritize them. An integrated plan of computerization should be developed. This would require development of an IT architecture which not only achieves the objective of the department but is also cost effective.
