Abstract: | This paper attempts to focus on the prospects and probleems of Indian agriculture by the turn of the century. Its emphasis is mainlty on- issues relating to distribution, and the increasing of the purchasing powiier of the poorest segments of the population. Its findings are that by the turn of the century, even under the most optimistic conditions of economic development, about 18 crore people depending on agriculture will be living below the poverty line. The problems. of these Indian poor cannot be solved within agricultuire because this sector ca71nnot by itself provide enough employment and income. |
