Abstract: Management of human resource is increasingly being recognized as the limiting factor in organizational effectiveness. In recent years questions like why people behave the way they do in their work, what do they want from their work, etc., have become pressing concerns of managers. Last two decades have seen extensive growth in research on motivation and several behavioral scientists have been able to develop some of the most fascinating theories of human motivation. McGregor, Maslow and Herzberg have become familiar names not only in academic circle but in industrial organizations as well.
