In this article, S C Bhatnagar and Rekha Jain attempt a realistic assessment of India's software export potential by analysing the structure of the global software market and its implications for the Indian software industry. Currently, India's software exports have been confined largely to one segment — coding of customized application, the market for which is likely to decline in the future. Therefore, according to the authors, the Indian software industry and the government will have to make concerted efforts in evolving a new strategy.
