Abstract: "Our motive is not only to break even but also to be socially responsible and to become financially selfreliant" said the Managing Director of Pallavan Transport Corporation (PTC) while describing its objectives. He was contemplating the future of the Corporation keeping in mind its objectives and the environment in which it operates. PTC had a unique role since it was an urban passenger road transport under taking playing a very major role in the city of Madras. He was especially concerned with some of the issues like the nascent reorganization of PTC into four regions, the year old introduction of V and J services, the slowly increasing vacuum in the management ranks, and the excess staff at the worker level. Considering the strengths and weaknesses of the organization, he was keen to chart a future path of movement for the organization.
