dc.description.abstract	This is the ®rst time that a special section of International Transactions in Operational Research is devoted to papers related to IFORS OR for Development Prize Competition and I am happy to be the editor of this special section of the journal. The IFORS OR for Development Prize Competition is held in conjunction with the IFORS triennial meetings. This prize is awarded to encourage, recognize and reward outstanding work in operational research (OR) in developing countries. The papers submitted for the prize should also have relevance to the development process of developing countries.
