I n the 1950s, when management education in India was still in an em bryonic stage, Dr Vikram Sarabhai, scientist, visionary, and a wellknown institution builder, foresaw the need for professionalization of management training and research in India. These objectives inspired him to set up the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad in 1962.
