dc.description.abstractThe aim of this research is to create an international and interdisciplinary team of researchers to achieve three objectives. Firstly, the researchers will develop security protocols that use the mobile Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) credentials to enable secure and trusted access to online services from a mobile phone. They will enable citizens to receive secure and trusted personalized services via their mobile handsets. These services will include secure transfer of funds and sensitive personal, medical and financial data. Special emphasis will be placed upon access by those located in remote areas in both UK and India. Research will therefore be conducted into patterns of mobile phone penetration in remote parts of UK and India where access to banks, as well as access to computers and broad band connectivity is limited owing to high installation and operational costs. Secondly, the objective is to study and analyse detection systems to help identify and prevent malicious transactions, money laundering, and other associated (and often unintended) forms of crime that may occur over the Internet. The detection system will help prevent misuse and aid the detection of fraudsters and other wrongdoers. Alongside scientific research, the researchers will also review current legal frameworks (both Indian and UK) relating to the transmission of information and protection against information fraud. Thirdly, the researchers will investigate the possibility of extending the application of the trusted security systems to improve the delivery of other online applications such as mobile voting (m-voting), mobile commerce (m-commerce), mobile health (m-health), and other mobile phone based services.en
