dc.description.abstract | The goal of social justice can sometimes be seen as making a lion’s den, a happy
zoo. It can also be seen as balancing the competing claims for common spaces,
be it in economic, social or cultural domains. But the most contentious situation
arises when historically marginalized communities expect past wrongs to be set
right through affirmative action. The contestation arises not just on the action the
state or the other civil society actors take, or the intentions behind those actions but
also on the consequences of those actions. Three spheres of social responsibility could
be: Intentions, actions, and consequences. These three spheres are mutually overlapping
and the zone where these three spheres intersect is the zone that is of utmost
importance to this colloquium. | |
