    Abstract
In this paper, we examine the impact of corporate governance on the performance of unlisted family owned small firms in India. By employing regressions with panels corrected standard errors as well as generalized least squares (GLS), we show that family-managers are guided by the principles of stewardship theory and exploit a firm’s competitive advantage leading to its improved performance.
