The present paper reveals that there has been a marked acceleration in the overall growth of agricultural production in India during the 1980s as compared to the 1970s. Improvement in food grains production was mainly because of improvement in crop yields, whereas, in case of nonpfoodgrains both yield and area increases were witnesses.
