dc.description.abstractParikrma Humanity Foundation established and headed by Ms. Shukla Bose runs four schools from grade UKG to XII for children living in slums. All children are educated free of cost in English medium through a variety of pedagogies which are participative, learner centered and have been evolved by teachers in consultation with resource persons. Parikrma engages with families from where children come regarding dead diction and weaning them away from alcohol, counselling regarding domestic violence, hygiene, nutrition and income generating activities through self- help groups. All students are served three meals a day, have sports coaching, life skills training and counselling and mentorship from staff and volunteers. Children and teachers of Parikrma organize two annual events which has participation from private and government schools: one is football tournament supported by corporates and second is a three day science festival with support from scientist at Indian Institute of Science. Several batches of students have passed out and are working in corporates or have established their own enterprises. Since last three years Parikrma staff are also working with government school teachers and principals to orient them about child centered participative teaching and learning. All expenses of Parikrma are met by support from corporate donors within the country and abroad. As Parikrma will complete 25 years in 2028, Shukla is ruminating about possibility of transitioning to a new leadership.en_US
