This report on “Implementation of BRTS in Indian Cities” provides a basic understanding of what goes in planning a transport system for a particular city. The major highlights of the report are as follows:There are several reasons why a city goes for a modern transport system like BRT. Some of them being: providing an efficient mode of transportation, increasing congestion due to private vehicles, increased demand for public transport, high PPHPD, etc. Once a city decides to go for a modern transport system, then the question arises what are the options. The options that have been analyzed are Metro, Monorail, BRT, LRT, and Commuter Rail (Local Trains). They have been analysed on various parameters such as the time required for implementation, cost of implementation, land requirement, capacity served, etc. BRTS being cost-effective option and less time required for implementation is the safest option that a government can think of. If the demand forecast for the next 10 years is being satisfied by BRTS, then a city should go for it. Further, we tried to rank the cities that require immediate attention for the modern transport system. This was done by finding cities that have high population growth and have high future prospects due to upcoming projects in the city which will also increase the number of commuters. Based on this we decided to design an implementation plan for Nagpur. The implementation structure (SPV) that a government should follow in order to execute the project in Nagpur. The final work is on deciding the roles and responsibilities of SPV formed, what should be the capital raising mechanism and finally the revenue model.en_US
