A comprehensive study of public housing in India
Abstract
In India the current housing conditions are rooted in the post-independence era of housing policies. The government initially focused its effort on facilitation of industrial activities to foster production of goods and thus reduce the import of foreign goods. Hence objectives like housing achieved little priority in the government policy making. They considered provisioning of houses as an activity with no economic return. This had precedence from architects of the constitution who also did not include housing provision as a constitutional right.
