dc.description.abstract | Hallmarking is a process of quality assurance by ensuring a mark (or a distinguishing characteristic symbol) on a piece of jewellery declaring its purity by assessing the accurate content of noble metals like silver, gold and platinum etc. Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) handles the gold hallmarking in India by certifying the purity of gold through its stringent processes. Hallmarking has advantages both for the consumer and the manufacturer/retailer. Through hallmarking, the consumer is protected from any kind of cheating. For the manufacturer/retailer, hallmarking is a testament of the capability, quality and consistency of his gold jewellery. Hallmarking is a voluntary scheme that is being operated by BIS through its widespread network of regional/Branch offices all over the country. | en_US |
