dc.description.abstract | In this paper, an attempt has been made to analyse the
trade union movement in an industry characterized by
rapid economic and technological changes. Multiple
unionism is a salient feature of this industry; there are
several general unions, craft unions, and staff unions in
the industry. In their structure and policies, however,
these unions are quite similar. Despite this multiplicity,
the unions have been able to achieve for workers a sub
stantial improvement in terms and conditions of employ
