dc.description.abstract | The note on the television industry describes government policies governing the manufacture and sale of TV sets in the 70s and 80s. It also covers the trends in the world consumer electronics industry, which supplied the technology and some components of the Indian industry as well as trends in the indigenous component industry. The note is useful in discussing the structure of the industry — technology/component suppliers and assemblers, changing relationships between manufacturers and dealers, between dealers and consumers, and among competitors. The profiles of some TV manufacturers enable a discussion of the implications of changes from the point of view of individual producers or groups such as small scale and public sector manufacturers. | en |
