Cereals and the central pool
Abstract
The authors who are associated with the National Institute of Rural Development, Hyderabad, have examined the availability of cereals in different states and the role played by the central pool in evening out disparities of supply, The say that that a large number of state are deficient in food grains and the allotments from the pool are not governed by actual needs, and political or other considerations often interfere with a rational allocation of food grains. They believe the removal of zonal restrictions will help in the fair distribution of cereals.
