As of 1998, the group consisted of nine companies in three different businesses, namely health care, energy, and financial services. With the liberalization of the Indian Economy, the business environment of the group as a whole and that of the constituent companies had change significantly. The top management team of the group was required to review the strategy and performance of the group as a whole, and develop recommendations for the future.en
