dc.description.abstractThe case presents a decision situation, for the principal of Chandrabala Modi Academy, a co-educational three year old school, having classes up to grade VIII, located in small city of Ankleshwar in the industrial belt in Western India. The principal, Mr. Bhattacharya, is approached by a senior official of the police department and president of the local Rotary club, who informed him about the increasing menace of drug in the city and possibility of school children getting affected. They explored the possibility of school initiating a campaign to educate the local community and the school children against drugs. Mr. Bhattacharya wondered if school could organize a swimming across the local river by school children to draw the attention of local community toward issue. Such an event may also infuse the spirit of adventure among children and build image of the school. However, crossing the river would involve considerable risk as children’s life would be at stake.
