Sound planning and efficient execution of development projects is a vital requirement for sustaining the process of development and ensuring that its gains are evenly distributed, throughout the country. In India, factors, such as inadequate infrastructural facilities, lack of skilled personnel and non-availability of adequate construction material have been some of the major constraints to the operational viability of many a project. The role of project managers assumes particular importance in this context. The paper presents the views and options of some project managers on these aspects coupled with their suggestions for remedial measures, based on an exhaustive questionnaire.
