Haste makes waste: negative consequences of hurried change efforts
Abstract
From a cursory reading of the case it appears as if
D'Cunha has been a victim of malicious campaign
against him by the women clerks. T.he case tells
us about the strained relations between D'Cunha
and the women clerks who perceived him as an
'upstart' and a 'show-off'. In an atmosphere
charged with mutual acrimony, D'Cunha is accused
by a woman clerk of making passes at her
and behaving rudely. Because of her complaint,
D'Cunha is transferred to another location and,
unable to bear this ignominy, he leaves the
organization.
Although inter-sex polarization may have
been one of the factors contributing to D'Cunha's
problems, it would be simplistic to believe that
this was the only reason for his transfer and s'ubsequent
departure. The case needs to be analysed
in depth to obtain a clear understanding of the
issues.
